Familiar with Fondant Tools? Sometimes called flower paste, rolled fondant, molding icing, sugar paste icing, and gum paste with multiple array of colors as well as qualities you can usually found at your neighboring craft store. This can also be used to decorate and cover cakes and even cupcakes in any occasions giving it a satin smooth look on cake. Fondants have three types: rolled fondant, sculpted fondant and the poured fondant. With its specific use, applying Fondant tools is easier than you think. Fondant tool is commonly used during birthdays in which it helps making memorable birthday cakes and it is also almost used for wedding cakes.

Here are some guidelines in each type of Fondant Tools:

  • Rolled Fondant

ü  Dab a little icing to the board by securing your baked cake in the cake board. Then, put the cake on the top. Using a small amount of a butter cream icing, frost your cake and the icing will serve as the base of your rolled fondant.

ü  Squeeze the fondant resulting to a soft consistency for it to be rolled over further using a rolling spin. If you feel the fondant is sticky, scatter a sufficient amount of confectioners' sugar as you do not want it sticky using rolling pin. If you want it to be colorful or if you think color is needed, apply a certain amount of food coloring gel onto the ball of the fondant before you knead it. Make a tiny hole at the uppermost of the ball then add the food coloring gel. Afterwards, knead it until it reached your desired shade.

ü  Roll the fondant (the only fondant that will be rolled). Sprinkle a surface using icing sugar and place the fondant atop of it. Roll it around one fourth inch. When it is rolled, roll it again on rolling pin.

ü  Using the rolling pin, unroll the fondant until the cake is adorned by the fondant that is rolled. Using cake smoother or even your palm, gently smooth out the fondant. Cut the excess using fondant cutters/sharp knife. If you want to add another layer, just repeat the steps. Allow it to dry in a couple of hours.

  • Poured Fondant

-  Repeat the same steps in Rolled Fondant but instead of rolled fondant, prepare a liquid fondant then pour it on cake's center part.

-  Smooth fondant using a spatula over and on the sides of the cake.
